This project was a live brief set by American brand Old Navy; designing prints, for two of the market of your choice, for Summer 2016 with the theme of an American Road trip.

The Californian Pacific Route One was the driving influence of this collection; taking inspiration from different aspects that a family could see whilst enjoying a summer the road-trip.

My two markets were young girls and boys.

for the girls collection I found beauty and femininity within cactus flowers taken from the more dessert routes of the journey along with inspiration taken from the 'painted ladies' style housing found in San Fransisco.

The designs created for boys took inspiration from more rugged cactus plants, the attraction Cabazon Dinosaurs and the aspect of camper vans and RVs.

As the collections were designed for toddler boys and girls I wanted to ensure my colour palette was a vibrant combination of pastels and pops of bold colour.

When reflecting on my initial drawings and having carried out some design development, I realised my drawings had a unique style that would translate well into prints that would require little manipulation in order to attain design which could then be used as motif designs. By using the sublimation method, I was able attain the illustrative nature within my designs.
